Associations between Light Rail Transit and physical activity: a systematic review

چکیده
Investment in public transport is on the rise as many cities around world aim to reduce their carbon footprint and improve population health. One such investment building or extending Light Rail Transit (LRT). Focusing studies USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, this paper reports results of a systematic review associations between LRT physical activity. This adhered Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Twenty were identified through search five bibliographic databases (Web Science, Transport Research International Documentation (TRID), Scopus, Medline, SPORTDiscus) (n=5,866) Google (n=446). At least two reviewers conducted reviewed titles abstract each article include review. Standardized data extraction forms used document information from selected article. The included risk bias assessment tool. Two completed Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) Quality Assessment Tool Quantitative Studies. Our findings show that moderate certainty evidence exists relationship walking behaviour. Here, all studies, most which natural experiments (n = 6), found positive association behaviour, with leading an increase 7–40% 7 out 8). A moderate-to-vigorous intensity activity (MVPA) cycling was also often identified; however, inconsistent, low MPVA, very cycling. Further, some 3) identify differences participation at different stations, suggesting station design, surrounding land use, built environment play important roles promoting LRT. Given this, practitioners can be relatively confident investments will result increased

The effect of light rail transit on body mass index and physical activity.
BACKGROUND The built environment can constrain or facilitate physical activity. Most studies of the health consequences of the built environment face problems of selection bias associated with confounding effects of residential choice and transportation decisions. PURPOSE To examine the cross-sectional associations between objective and perceived measures of the built environment; BMI; obesit...
متن کاملThe Effect of Light Rail Transit on Physical Activity: Design and Methods of the Travel-Related Activity in Neighborhoods Study
BACKGROUND Use of mass transit has been proposed as a way to incorporate regular physical activity into daily life because transit use typically requires additional travel to access and depart the stop or station. If this additional travel is active, a small but potentially important amount of physical activity can be achieved daily. Although prior research has shown that transit use is associa...
متن کاملComparison of Light Rail Transit With Bus Semirapid Transit
Selection of transit modes is one of the most important decisions in the transit planning process. A particularly important decision is the selection between bus and rail modes, because it influences the type of service that will be offered and, more importantly, the role transit will play in the city. Ultimately, such a decision has an impact on the quality of life in the city. It is therefore...
متن کاملThe Highlight of Growing Light Rail Transit
Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a kind of rail vehicle form which includes from modern tramcars to speed transport. These vehicles go on special road, underground, floor or specific altitude. Today the number of active serving LRT systems in 50 countries is more than 400. Moreover, a forceful increase has been expected for next years. It is clear that this growing up has certain reasons. In this st...
متن کاملLoad Quantification for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, and Commuter Rail Transit Infrastructure
The type and magnitude of loads passing through the track superstructure have a great impact on both the design and the performance of concrete sleepers and fastening systems. To date, the majority of North American research focusing on quantifying rail infrastructure loading conditions has been conducted on heavy-haul freight railroads. However, the results and recommendations from these studi...
